How UD Accessibility Check differs from CommonLook and PDF checkers

PDF accessibility checkers flag structural tags and contrast ratios. UD Accessibility Check audits the document's actual content and language against WCAG 2.1 criteria — and embeds the report in the file.

CommonLook / Adobe Accessibility Checker
Structural PDF accessibility tools — they check for tagged headings, alt text, and reading order. They don't audit whether the language is plain enough for WCAG 3.1.5 (Reading Level) or whether content is comprehensible.
Manual WCAG audit
Expert accessibility consultants audit documents against WCAG 2.1 success criteria. Thorough but expensive and slow — not practical for routine document checking before publication.
UD Accessibility Check — content-level WCAG audit
Claude assesses the document's language, structure, and content against WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 criteria. Each criterion is assessed as PASS, FAIL, or CANNOT_ASSESS with a specific note.
UD Accessibility Check — report embedded in the document
The accessibility report is embedded as structured metadata in the output .uds. The document carries its own audit record — auditors, editors, and publishers can retrieve it from the file at any time.
